RealDoll Documentary

There are some things that border the line between creepy and sad, but a documentary about sex dolls and the people, who, um, enjoy their company, featured on BBC’s Channel 5, is undeniably a mixture of both. I ran across the short film, appropriately titled Guys and Dolls, on a blog over the weekend. It intrigued me because I recognized that the dolls featured in the film are from a San Marcos company, RealDoll, which manufactures the life-sized, life-like, silicon companions. My boyfriend told me about the company after learning about it in his human sexuality class at SDSU, and we’ve been cracking jokes about it ever since. Also, Paul Hormick toured the company’s factory and wrote about it for CityBeat last spring . The company also makes other stuff, like Glowcocks, a doll-oriented porn flick (starring Ron Jeremy) and “Booby balls” (referred to as ‘the ultimate stress reliever’).
Because the documentary is made for British television, where indecency laws are more lax, the filmmakers were able to show the fully nude anatomically correct dolls. The dolls look disturbingly similar to human corpses, but isn’t it nice to know that the world’s best sex dolls are made so close to home?
